Signaling support for the EU AI Act & we’re hiring!

January 31, 2024

“If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you know someone who would be a strong candidate for one of the roles we’re hiring for.

One of the best ways you can support us is by sharing our job postings (further down in this post).

Working at TFS means you play a pivotal role in shaping some of the world’s most influential AI governance initiatives. Depending on your focus, your contributions could range from drafting recommendations for the EU AI Act’s governance of general-purpose AI, to developing strategic policy advice for US agencies in line with the latest Executive Order, or contributing to forefront international efforts.

TFS is a small organization. A perk of working here is the influence any one person can have on our trajectory. We’re excited to grow—to onboard and support new teammates in taking our strategy, quality of work, and impact to the next level.

We recognize that some of our roles require unconventional combinations of skills. We value adaptability. We love candidates with can-do attitudes and we encourage you to apply, even if you are uncertain whether you meet the expectations for the role.

TFS supports approval of the EU AI Act

The Future Society urges European Union Member States and the European Parliament to approve the EU AI Act – to protect citizens and establish EU leadership in AI governance.

The EU AI Act represents a defining moment. It is a turning point from the era of unchecked AI towards responsible innovation that harnesses this technology for societal good. With prudent safeguards grounded in European values, it steers AI development away from hype, harms, and governance failures. It provides hope that AI can strengthen, not undermine, the integrity of our digital future. We urge the Council and the European Parliament to swiftly approve this essential legislation, securing a safer and more trustworthy AI landscape that benefits all European citizens and will inspire the rest of the world.

The time for action is now. Let there be no further delay in charting the course for AI innovation that upholds rights and democracy.

Contribution to the G7 Hiroshima AI Process Code of Conduct

Every dollar counts.

The Future Society is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Philanthropy is what makes our work possible. Here’s just one reason to donate to us:

We are fighting an uphill battle. Corporations are pouring billions of dollars into AI, and their profit incentives can be misaligned with broader public interests. Independent nonprofit organizations are crucial players to ensure that governance solutions serve the public interest, and we rely upon philanthropic support to have an effect commensurate with other stakeholders’ influence.

If that reason wasn’t convincing enough, here are 9 more.
