Technological advancements in AI are outpacing governmental regulatory and corporate governance efforts. While much of the focus of policy efforts has historically been placed on the deployment of advanced AI systems, there’s a notable gap in the research and development stages.
To this end, The Future Society is compiling clauses that may serve as commitments by developers of frontier AI systems to adopt safe, secure, and ethical practices and procedures. Throughout 2022-2023, we hosted workshops and consultations with technical staff and engineers from companies developing frontier AI systems as well as independent experts to draft clauses that address vulnerabilities in model design, development, and testing.
In August 2023, we submitted a list of clauses in response to the NIST Generative AI Public Working Group Request for Resources. This list of recommendations is intended to foster the development of advanced AI in a safe and trustworthy manner and to inspire further research into best practices.
