Caio Vieira Machado

Caio Vieira Machado is a Senior Associate at The Future Society. He focuses on the governance of artificial intelligence, with expertise in algorithmic fairness, platform regulation, and scientific disinformation. He is currently a fellow at Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, where he collaborates on research into machine learning, fairness, and responsible AI design.

Before joining The Future Society in 2025, Caio co-founded and led Instituto Vero, a Brazilian nonprofit advancing digital rights in the public sphere through research, advocacy, and strategic communication. His work has been featured in academic publications and presented at institutions such as UNESCO, NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence (StratCom COE), the United Nations, and the Brazilian Supreme Court.

Caio holds a PhD in Law from the University of Oxford, where he studied disinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic, and a second PhD in Law from the University of São Paulo (USP), focused on AI as adjudication infrastructure. He also earned an MSc in Social Science of the Internet from Oxford, an LLM in Data Law from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and an LLB from USP.

He is fluent in Portuguese, English, and French; conversational in Spanish, and learning German.
